For self-employed borrowers, your accountant can be one of the most useful people in a car loan application, especially for low-doc finance, where you haven't got up-to-date financials.
The accountant's letter
Some lenders accept a letter from your registered tax agent or accountant confirming key facts about your business. It typically covers:
- How long they've acted for you
- Your business name, ABN and structure
- Confirmation that you're trading, and an indication of income or turnover
- That tax lodgements are up to date, or the status of any outstanding ones
Each lender has its own requirements for format and wording. Ask your broker for the lender's template before your accountant writes it.
Other ways your accountant helps
- Getting lodgements current: overdue BAS or returns are a common roadblock
- Choosing the structure: which entity should own the vehicle
- Finance type: chattel mortgage vs lease for your tax position
- Timing: buying before or after 30 June, and using the instant asset write-off if eligible
Self-employed and looking at low-doc? Tell us about your business in about 60 seconds and a licensed broker will call you. No credit check to enquire.
