Rather than naming lenders, whose policies change often, here are the policy points that decide whether a lender fits your bike. Get these right and you avoid wasted applications.
Questions to ask any lender
- Do you finance unregistered off-road bikes, or only road-registrable ones?
- Is there a maximum bike age, at purchase or at the end of the loan?
- Do you accept private sales, or only dealer purchases?
- Is there a minimum loan amount? Some secured loans don't go below a set figure.
- Can the loan include gear and accessories?
- What insurance is required?
- What are the fees and the early payout costs?
Matching the lender to the bike
| Bike | Likely fit |
|---|---|
| New, from a dealer, road-registrable | Mainstream secured motorbike lenders, or dealer finance |
| New motocross (unregistered) | Lenders that accept recreational or off-road bikes, or a personal loan |
| Older, private sale | Usually a personal loan |
