Who we help
- Sole traders with returns not yet lodged: where last year's figures aren't available yet
- Growing businesses: whose current turnover is well above what the last tax return shows
- Tradies and contractors: buying a single or dual cab ute, or a van for tools and stock
- Property owners: owning a home or investment property often widens low doc options
- Service and delivery businesses: needing a van or car to get to clients
- ABN holders not registered for GST: there are fewer low doc options, but some lenders may consider you
Low doc vs full doc
| Low doc | Full doc | |
|---|---|---|
| What you provide | ABN details and a signed income declaration, usually backed by recent BAS, business bank statements or an accountant's letter | Recent tax returns, notices of assessment and often financial statements |
| Suits | Established ABNs whose financials lag behind their actual trading | Businesses with lodgements up to date |
| Trade-offs | Lenders may want a longer ABN history, a deposit or property ownership, and pricing can be less sharp | More paperwork, but generally the widest choice of lenders and terms |
"Low doc" doesn't mean "no checks". The lender still needs to be satisfied you can afford the repayments. It just accepts different evidence of income.
What lenders look at for a low doc vehicle loan
- ABN and GST history: how long the ABN has been active and whether you're registered for GST. Many low doc products want a minimum trading period.
- BAS and bank statements: these show actual turnover. Consistent deposits and BAS lodged on time carry real weight when tax returns aren't available.
- Your credit file: defaults, missed payments and recent enquiries matter more when there's less paperwork to lean on.
- Property ownership: lenders often treat home owners as lower risk, which can mean higher loan amounts or fewer documents.
- Deposit or trade-in: putting money in reduces the lender's risk and can open up options.
- The vehicle: cars, utes and vans are well understood as security. Older vehicles or private sales may narrow the choice of lenders.
Vehicles commonly financed
Single and dual cab utes with trays, canopies or toolboxes; small, mid-size and long-wheelbase vans; people movers for staff; and cars used to visit clients. Fit-outs such as shelving, racks and drawer systems can often be included when they're on the same invoice as the vehicle. Light trucks are usually treated as truck finance.

Common questions
What does low doc actually mean?
It means the lender accepts alternative evidence of income, such as BAS, business bank statements or an accountant's letter, instead of full tax returns and financial statements. You still need to show you can afford the repayments.
How long do I need to have had my ABN?
It varies by lender. Many low doc products look for an ABN that has been active for a while, often at least one to two years. Some lenders consider newer ABNs if you have industry experience, a deposit or own property.
Are low doc loans more expensive?
They can be, because the lender is relying on less information. The rate you're offered depends on things like your ABN history, credit file, property ownership, deposit and the vehicle itself.
Can I get a low doc loan if I'm not registered for GST?
Possibly. Some low doc products require GST registration, but others may consider ABN holders who aren't registered, usually with bank statements as income evidence. A broker can tell you which lenders fit.
Does enquiring affect my credit score?
No. Filling in our enquiry form isn't a credit application. A credit check only happens if you choose to go ahead with an application through the broker.
